To Medicate or Not- It’s Not a Question, It’s a Lifestyle

This might be a bit of a delicate subject for some – however good I am at being gentle and tip toeing my way around things when needs be… this is not one of the topics where I could do that. Not in good conscience anyway. So, I will just jump in and tell it as I see it.

I meet people all the time who want to believe they can keep their feet firmly in both camps when it comes to medication and the use of drugs. This is actually one of the first lessons I was taught by my body – you will have to make a choice and then stick firmly with that decision.

The reason I am mentioning this is one that I have seen over the years – parents who do not vaccinate their children (which I agree with) and go without using medication themselves for certain conditions. However these same people then proceed to do absolutely nothing to support their body or a child’s developing immune function.

At the very least, an unvaccinated child or  drug free adult will be healthier, but the same foods that pull everyone else down will still have a detrimental effect on them. The most obvious one would be sugar and sweets, however any rubbish or processed foods will do the same.

Other things such as time spent exercising, out of doors and staying away from antibiotics are all equally important for us all. When you are choosing to go without the drugs – you must incorporate a healthy lifestyle to support that decision.

I mention antibiotics because they are the most commonly prescribed drug for nearly anyone or perhaps this has been eclipsed by anti-depressants by now – either way, these are potent toxins.

A little bit of poison is still toxic – when walking the spiritual path you cannot have things both ways. You are either embarking on the journey of your life, inwards to find your soul or you are playing around on the outside packed and ready to go, but not ever starting on the path.

What do I mean by this? It’s quite simple really – either you do this all the way and fully learn to fix, heal and change your life. Or you will be in an uncertain place where your health is concerned.

When you try to dabble and keep a foot firmly in both camps you will set yourself up for failure, ill health and worse. A healthy lifestyle wins every time!

Dazed and Confused On The Spiritual Path

There is a lot that needs to be said here about this topic - confusion - mostly because this is such a common problem, yet one that is directly related to the food we are eating or have eaten throughout our lives.

Last night I had a dream of packaged macaroni and cheese (remember that?) the kind of stuff that many children eat in North America on a daily basis because it is easy to prepare and will fill you up. However, it lies in the category of 'I can't believe, I used to eat that stuff' and it is something that I would never feed to my own children.

So where did it all go wrong?

This is the question that I woke up with this morning and I feel that perhaps I am still mulling this entire food question (removal of all processed foods) over on yet a deeper level as I attempt to detox even further into my own body. And, I think that I have found the source of spiritual confusion!

Consuming processed, junk and fake foods at any time alters your body composition and likely influences your genetic makeup and certainly compromises the genetic integrity. We simply cannot build a healthy body (from the cells inside) nor can we function efficiently on any level when we eat foods with little or no energy.

And function equally means body, mind and spirit. Not one aspect of our beings works properly, moves forward, experiences clarity and it is difficult to remain grounded on a poor diet. Our lives become disjointed, unconnected and purposeless.

You are far more then what you eat - the food you eat today makes up the energy you project tomorrow. Food without a life force (and far removed from wholeness) will not bring you closer to consciousness or enable your spiritual dimensions to develop on any level.

Is it any wonder that so many are feeling confused on the spiritual path - it's all about the food!

What I love About Eating Well...

For the most part this is an easy way to eat and live, I mean you have to go out of your way to specifically eat unhealthy. Yes, I know processed food is everywhere and it is so relatively easy to pick up rubbish at the shops.

But, what if you were to not go to the shops all that often? What if the majority of your food came from the farmers market, your garden and the local fish monger, cheese person and butcher? There is no rubbish in either of these places.

What has happened to us is that we are sucked into these Big Food stores and then enticed into purchasing nonsense foods that are not even part of a food group let alone contain anything nourishing for the body.

When you stay out of these places more or less (unless there is something you really need) then you can avoid all the temptation until this processed junk, rubbish and prepared foods are no longer even on the radar for you.

Once your body gets used to eating better it will ask for and expect better. Think about it - this is your temple for life, it holds mind and soul together for as long as you are here. It's best to start taking that seriously and start eating well.

What I love about eating well is that my body speaks to me, there is not one illness or disease that I fear and my body functions/systems work well inside and out. But I also love the fact that I am a positive example for my children - teaching them the way to look after themselves and to trust in their bodies and health. Feeding yourself well is a skill - it is not taught anywhere.

If only I had known then what I do now - it would have saved me a lot of grief, however, live and learn!

Have a great day,

April
